About Us
Topanga Lumber & Hardware Co., was founded in 1945, by Merle Bouseman, who ran the Company in the small community of Topanga for several years. Merle sold the business to Dorthy Hogen who in the summer of 1966 sold the business to Denis Contis. For the next 4 years Denis, with only one full time employee Stan Groh, worked tirelessly to grow the Company.
In 1970 HE BOUGHT Dan Sabin, an old high school friend into the business as a partner. Together they continued to build until Danny’s untimely death in 1984.
In 1993, after suffering through a serious recession and at the urging of his daughter, Denis and Ernie Demontreux expanded the business by supplying the entertainment industry with all set-building materials. In 2008, Denis moved forward with full-time retirement, moving down south to enjoy his beach home.
The company has been and continues to be a family-owned and operated business. It is presently being operated by Denis’s middle daughter Nicholisa Contis. Nicholisa comes to us with years of extensive entertainment management experience. She has been able to change the face of the company and significantly increase sales in our general contractor’s division.
Today, Topanga Lumber and Hardware Co., Inc. is a major supplier to general contractors, homeowners, commercial contractors, and industrial builders. In addition, it is the number one prime supplier for the entire entertainment business.
Topanga Lumber serves the local community and the greater Los Angeles area in all areas of their building and hardware needs. We have been serving all buildings for over 48 years.
